In this case, the kitty is wandering around a ruined and abandoned house remembering its life with the family that once lived there. It remembers how happy and content it was sitting in the overstuffed chair and watching the mother cook and the children play. It is so sad to see the comparison to how empty the building is now. At the end of the story, the kitty fades away, and you realize that it is just a ghost cat remembering its former life.
