Even though in the show Aquila spends quite a bit of time in her priestess robes, it is still very difficult to find nice cels of her. In this scene, she is crying over the fact that Yawaru and Bilka are fighting over what is going to happen to her.

I was really glad to see this cel show up for sale on Yahoo Japan. I am a little confused, however. There were several cels that were almost the exact same image of this one and so I thought that they were sequence-mates. So why is my cel labelled tome? I will have to go back and see if there is a still shot and then a separate sequence. Another possibility may be related to the background issue I mention below.

I have to admit that I was rather surprised by the background of this cel. From the scan and the screen capture it would be easy to assume that the background is solid black. It’s not. In fact, most of the background is painted tan. There are even parts of the cel that are painted black to cover up part of the tan area. There is no question that the background is matching because the numbers on it, the genga, and the cel are all the same. It looks like there was a mistake in painting the background, and they tried to correct it later on in the process of production. I think I heard that the backgrounds are often painted by a different company so they probably did this since they were pressed for time on producing this TV show. It would probably take longer to contact the other company and ask for a new background. Anyways, I have included a separate scan of the background above.
